Electricbarbarella
Daphne, one of the ex batts, has not been looking tooo good for a while now. She had all her feathers but is losing them again, she has big bald patches and her skin is really red, just above her tail feathers (which are very scraggy) she has a huge lump that looks like it could be an absess. She is still laying, I have treated her for lice, she had a few but went away straight away. I just cant work out what is wrong with her, going to ask my friend who is much more experienced than me to come and have a look at her but I have a feeling it is not going to be good. Ain't Nobody Here
Sorry to hear that . No advice to offer, I'm afraid, just wishing you luck with her .
Budgies
I'm sorry to hear that Daphne isn't well. Not sure what to suggest, but there IS a mite called a depluming mite which as its name suggests, makes all their feathers fall out. It is apparently quite rare so I could be totally wrong on this!! If it is that however, pyrethrum based chemical powder used regularly is recommended. Also, this lump above her tail feathers - it's not possible that it's her oil gland is it? There is a lump and a sort of a nipple on their backs, just an inch or so from the end of their tails that secretes oil. You'll see them rub their beaks on it then preen feathers. If she's going bald this would be on show. Sorry I can't be of more help, hope your friend can tell you more. Fingers crossed for Daphne here. Electricbarbarella
am celebrating, am just silly over anxious chicken mummy. Friend had a really good check over Daphne and said there is absolutly nothing wrong with her. The absess type thing is her oil gland and she is having a late moult due to the fact that she never stopped laying when we rescued her.
