tom123
Well my hens are all on the mend and are doing fine. Daisy has a new friend, Rosie the buff laced wyandotte bantam, and they are getting along just great. Now I am getting 2-4 new hens however don't know what to get. I have reserved 1 buff orp and 1 gold silkie from a man in malvern and he also has silver partidge pekins. I do love pekins and am considering getting one of these as well. I would also LOVE another pekin cockerel, my last one was so lovely and such a gent however he is now gone I was very lucky with his crowing as he was quite quiet. If I do get another cockerel and he is too noisy I do have a friend who can take him so there's no worry there I just don't know what to get I can't get the buff orp, gold silkie, pekin hen and cockerel so I have to sacrifice one But which one? Can everyone give me their bad and good points about silkies and orps? I have pekins and I just love them so at the moment I think the silkie is off the list but I am now reconsidering! Help!!! Thanks Tom
tidygirlsuk
Is it a bantam orpington ? normal orpintons are a very heavy breed I have a silver partrige pekin 13 week chick and she (if she) is one of the most beautiful chickens i have. I also have a lavender pekin cockerel that i wouldn't be without. I too would love a silkie in the future. I have no experiance with bantam orpinton but have seen the heavy breed. Beautiful but huge. Probably not much help to you, sorry.
Daphne
my bant buff orp is just about 1 year old. She didn't lay till she was 8 months (May hatch - earlier hatch should lay earlier) and so far she's been broody twice - I'm not sure if this a good point or a bad point! ajm200
If the bantam version is like the bigger type.. I'd go for it.
