Space Chick
I'm a little concerned, Sarah-Jane has been pecking and pulling out Rose's feathers and then eating them. No blood has been drawn, but I am concerned about it. Anything I can do to stop it? Should I get some anti-peck spray?
Egluntyne
I would deal with it straight away before it becomes a permanent habit. I'd try spray first and then move onto a bumper bit if she persists.
Space Chick
Thanks Anne, well done on becoming a Mod by the way
Saronne
One of mine plucked and ate the feathers of another hen. I tried some anti-peck spray, but it didn't work (though I did not try Ukadex). Putting a bumper bit on has worked. The offending hen seems comfortable with it on and can eat and drink okay - so it's staying on for now! legend21
Hi All, I got my ex bats last night and one of them is pulling her feathers out all morning, what is a bumper and where do I get one?, I am not sure if I just ignore it she will stop. I have tea tree oil I may dilute it and spray her to see if that works, a wee bit concerned as I am not even sure if it is painful. Gallina
I would recommend fitting a bumper bit. There is a sticky about them here: viewtopic.php?f=42&t=12641 It would be helpful if people on the forum would put their location (just a county would do) in their profile. There may be someone near you who would let you have a bumper bit quickly. I can always supply in an emergency to anyone willing to come to Oxford, for instance.
