Ygerna
Amy is now sat on just two fertilised eggs. These were showing good signs when I candled them about two days ago. However, she is in a cube. The ladder is going to cause some issues should any of these hatch. I can get a rabbit hutch, with run, which I can put into our summer house for added protection from the predadtory Mr Fox. But I am worried than moving Amy and the eggs now will cause her to reject the eggs. But, if I wait till the eggs hatch, she may then reject the chicks. What would you do? The Dogmother
I'd move her to alternative housing Ygerna - get it set up and move her at night when she's more dopey and more inclined to stay. She will need to be separate when the littlies hatch.
Solopuff
I have done both ie. moved a broody with eggs at night and moved a broody with newly hatched chicks. Both were fine. The only thing I found is that you need someone to help you especially if you are moving chicks as the mum gets upset at being separated from them and then they all start to panic. Best thing is one person to move mum and another to move 2 chicks all at the same time then go back for any more. I waited 2 days after hatching to give any remaining eggs a chance but then dumped them at the time of the move (they proved to be DIS). If it's eggs you can move a couple in advance of the broody so she has something to sit on straight away. Good luck either way you choose to do it
