Lakes Chick
Hello lovely helpfull people. I really have a battel of head v's heart at the moment. My long awaited Eglu arrives June 10th (I cant wait, its killing me, I am like a small child at christmas) and I am looking into procuring my chickens. The problem is that I know that sensiblely I should get 2. Less damage to the garden, it wont matter if they have to spend some time in there run (although I do intend to let them run free most of the time), We dont need the extra eggs etc etc. But my heart says 3! It is a much better number from a design/asthetic point of view, If we lose one their will still be two rather than a poor solitary chicken, I have 3 names, I dont think I can choose just 3. Aghhh what do I do?????? Lorna xxxxx
chick wiggle
I have seen other members say that 3 is the least no of chickens you should get for a number of reasons and if your getting 2 anyway then 1 more wont make any difference to grass etc. Go on, you know you want to
Ain't Nobody Here
The general feeling is that it's good to get three, for just the reason you state . Could you stretch to getting a converter for the run (you could add it to your order now rather than paying p&p later on ). If you do plan to let them freerange a lot (but do be careful ) they'll be fine in the run plus converter. I originally had 3 in a standard run but soon added the converter . katieadams
We've got 3 in a plus run and converter and they've got plenty space - we let them out nearly every day though too
Janty
We had four hybrids in an eglu with run, convertor and extension when we were doing introductions. However, my six babies also lived in the eglu whilst they were growing and they still sleep there by choice (all six!). In fact, one of the RIRs has moved in with them. little jerry
Yes, definately get 3. We got 3 on Friday and its working out just great. We have a standard eglu with extended run which they spend part of the day in and free range for the rest of the day. We had intended to get just 2 but were advised against this for the same reasons. Its sound advice. Go for 3. They will have plenty room in the eglu, and hey you have already got the names. Have fun.
Lakes Chick
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I showed your messages to my DH and he has said I can order the run extention and have 3! Thank you again from me, and my (soon to be) Chickens! x
quickcluck
Definately 3! If you are getting an extension maybe even
Jaack
I keep four in my eglu although they do have a 3m x 10m run, of a night time they all cram themselves into 1/4 of the eglu to roost, so i think it depends on how much outside room you give them. Ain't Nobody Here
I showed your messages to my DH and he has said I can order the run extention and have 3! I'm sure Omlet will tell you this when you phone up, but make sure you buy the converter rather than the extension. You need the converter first (then the extensions fit onto that) .
