Chickens are Fighting

Recommended Posts

I had 3 chickens recently until one was taken by the fox. So today we got 2 more chickens to add to the flock. So we now have 4. But so far the chickens keep on fighting. And the two new ones just want to go int he eglu.

I don't have personal experience of introducing new hens to an established flock, but I know that it's advisable to do it slowly and gently. Otherwise you will get fighting which may end in bloodshed (or even death :( ). So you may want to read these threads for some advice. Do keep an eye out for any wounds as the sight of blood will make them peck even more :( .

We were unable to borrow any thing when we had to introduce our new chook to the others and it was really quite upseting for a week or so. We just kept really vigilant and got the obligitory purple spray and had to kind of let them get on with it. We gave them as much space as we could and free ranged them as much as possible. They are now best friends and that was about 3 weeks ago that it all started. It will get better, they just need to sort things out it their own chicken way, but if you can seperate them out it will be easier, but take heart if you can't, it doesn't last forever.
