Well the Ukadex arrived this morning from Bowden and Knights ( £11.45 inc postage )

I changed into an old T shirt and put plastic bags over my hands as I had no gloves, then into the run to spray Favvie, now the fact that she just sits there looking at me probably made things easier- might have been a different story with a timid chook flapping about, but I gave her a quick blast and then made a quick exit( holding my breath until I was out of the run ) then I breathed in and thought ' that's not so bad , smells like a stale ashtray'. I stood watching Favvie for a bit and decided I'd missed a few feathers at the back, so back into the run, not bothering with the plastic bags this time , bent down to move the drinker out of the way and of course Favvie comes runing over to me to see what's happening, smearing Ukadex all over my hand !!oh well, another quick blast with the spray and I'll go and wash my hands.

As I leave the run at the side of the house , OH comes out of the back door and exclaims ' 'WHAT IS THAT SMELL, is something burning ?' as I approach the corner to turn around the back of the house I realise I must have been upwind of the stink and it now hits me full force as I turn the corner !! A bonfire made of cigarettes would probably smell similar ! I washed my hands, then again, then used an exfoliating scrub, after the 5th wash I could hardly detect the smell !

It's been a gorgeous afternoon and I've been sat in the sun on my lounger, only choking and coughing occasionally when the breeze carries the smell and catches me at the back of my throat ! so, what is all the fuss ?

Exactly my reaction when mine arrived last week. Smells of stale ashtrays doesn't it? Not particularly nice, but not at all what I was expecting! I can think of a million things that would smell worse/

It is not as bad a s a full Flitrap....which is without a doubt the most sickening thing I have ever smelled in my life.

 

I think Ukadex affects some more than others....but the smell is rather persistent.

Might not be so bad now, but you realise you will have to reapply it every couple of days? After a while you can't get rid of the smell!

There was definitely still a whiff in the air as I lay on the sun lounger this afternoon !

I'm hoping I won't have to reapply it, Ozzy has ignored Favvie completely since I sprayed her - hasn't even attempted to pull a feather so hasn't had a taste of it, straight after I sprayed, Ozzy wandered over to Favvie, gave her the quizzical look ( you know, head on the side thing )and wandered off again, obviously the smell did the job ! She didn't even tell Favvie off for snaffling treats infront of her this afternoon

Well, I am not a smoker, and I agree stale ashtrays are pretty disgusting, but there are much worse smells IMO. I was expecting sewage or decomposing flesh, and all I got was tobacco

I think you get used to it after a while. The smell does linger though. My sister chicken sat for me last September and she swears she can still smell Ukadex in her garage now!
