Another broody question - sorry

Recommended Posts

Hufflepuff is sitting on the nest beautifully, I have had her out for a leg strech and eat and drink this morning.

The problem seems to be that if I open the eglu door she just gets up. She did this before she had sat on the nest at all yesterday, this morning after her leg stretch she took a bit of persuading to get back on the nest.

Now I have closed the door again she is happy as anything.

So does she want the door closed, is that what she is telling me, it feels a bit mean, but is she preferring the dark and quiet. Obviously she has food and water in the actual eglu and she is in a strange garden with 9 other hens staring at her so i can understand why she might like a bit of privacy, on the other hand it feels very wrong to shut a hen up.

She does seem very happy shut in, and a little restless if I open the door.

Sorry that was a complete ramble wasnt it.

I haven't had a hen inccubate before but I have had a broody and she would just stay on the nest all the time. I never close my eglu (its in a very safe run). She would get off for a little bit for an eat and a drink but then scoot back there making funny noises asap.

I am not sure if I would leave the door shut, I know you put food into the eglu but would she be able to see it in the dark? Mind you I might be totally wrong, i am sure some one who really knows will be along in a mo :D

Ok she is now officially glued to the nest, door is open and she hasnt budged.

I think the move might have knocked the broody out a little bit, it is back good and proper now.

Eglutine - she is so gorgeous I cant stop going to have a peek at her, the whole family are besotted. I think she is going to be a perfect mum. :)
