Being new to keeping chooks, I was wondering if anyone can tell me what my hen is doing when she is, well, "laughing"?

 

Is she happy or upset?

I should think she is happy and is chattering away like my Rosie does. They sometimes do it when they hear something or just because they feel like it! Mine whistle too.

I sometimes think that my girls are trying to tell me everything that has happened since I've seen them last , it sounds as if they are gabbling.

Yes Violet and Juliet always make sure I know absolutely everything that has gone on since they last saw me I do wish Violet wasn't so loud though!

It's lovely getting used to all their little ways isn't it?

 

One of my girls used to do a little alarm call if a door slammed or similar. It sounded like 6 "boks" really close together and came from deep inside her so was like a hearty chuckle! Made anyone listening laugh because it was such a warm sound!

 

I never failed to be amazed at their range of vocalisations! Something for every occasion it seemed!!
