What can we put in their Eglu run (with converter) for some entertainment for them?

 

We have a big log stump which they sometimes stand/sit on. And a branch which they walk across. The run is on bark which they love scrabbling around in for bugs but other than that what can we put in there to stop them getting bored?

 

They've been free ranging for a couple of hours every day (I'm sitting in the garden with the laptop now and they're scrabbling around!) but that leaves quite a while in the run really...

Have you tried hanging things up? Anything. I hang broccoli and corn on the corn, half a melon stuff for them to peck at? Also leafy greens are good as it's takes them a while to get through them.....

From Wilkos we got fat ball cages (think they were 99p each) they are square and we stuff them with cauliflower leaves, celery, broccoli, cucumber - basically any old bits left in the fridge. They do hold a lot, so keeps them going for a while.

 

We just hang them up around the run.

Yep to the above. Hanging corn on the cob will keep them active & occupied.

 

Seed bells or sticks (made from honey) are good for an occasional treat.

I gave them a small ball and hung a CD up for them but they just spooked them. Thought I saw chickens have them on a Jamie Oliver programme.

Mine have a couple of mirrors on the wall of their run - they seem to like looking at themselves

And they have one of those 'rodent' treat balls, which you can fill with corn, and as they kick it about the corn trickles out.

I hang carrots up for mine which they seem to like and as they're hard it takes a while for them to devour them. They LOVE courgette but they're quite an expensive treat that doesn't last too long. There's only two of them but half an apple (cored) disappears in under 10mins! I like the idea of the treat ball that many seem to have so have just bought one - yet to try it out on them...

My lot have:

 

- a log to jump on

- a dustbath

- a parrot mirror (which they all ignore)

- a broom handle (through bars as a perch)

- a metal foodball (see Omlet shop - which sometimes I stuff with cabbage leaves)

- sometimes I tie up brocolli stalks with string and hang them from the run bars
