im at a loss, any other ideas re feather loss.

Recommended Posts

i got a couple new girls about month back, they came with a couple of lice and worms to i left them in another cage and wormed them and loused them etc, i have re done them since, and cant find any more on them. they have gone in with my other girls after a good week of treatments.

now one of them which is a black copper maran has a bold patch on her neck (bottom) not red, and cant see any new feathers coming through. and odd egg laying.

now one of my gilrs a rir has got the same it is red, and i can see new feathers appearing.

all my girls have been wormed a mth ago, and loused and diatom in food, and a harkin drop at bk of neck about 2 mths ago. and i also did a lice spray as well, and i have red mite powder in there cage house etc.

i hae checked all my girls over and they are nice and clean what else can it be, she is nice and red in face and as far as i know is laying geting 17-19 eggs a day of 24 (1 is a retired bat who doesnt lay)

the other black maran is fine and the 2 legbars had feathers missing of back (saddle area). had a cockeral with them.

one is nearly all back looking good the other still very tatty on her back no eggs as yet.

here is a pc of my rir, u can get idea of the black maran but hers isnt red just skin colour.

Could be a couple of things. My guesses are:

she's being picked at by another chook and feather pulled,

she's sticking her head through a gap regularly and they're getting worn off

or the roosting bars in the house are rubbing on her.

If she's parasite free I can't think of anything else. :?
