4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

When we got our ranger on saturday i noticed that she had a blunt beak but as they were new thought nothing of it. Today i was feeding her corn from my hand and noticed her tongue sticks out the end. so i am thinking she has lost a considerable amount of beak.

 

do you think this might be an issue for her. she does seem to be eating well. in fact she is the boss!

One of mine has the tip missing, I swear she whistles from it. Anyway shes over a year old and has never had any problems.

 

I would monitor her but dont let yourself worry. I think its quite common.

I have one like this. It doesn't bother her at all.

Our ranger also appears to have the tip of her beak missing. It is much more rounded than the other hens.

 

Being that our rangers have come from the same place, it may be a characteristic of this breed, as all my other hens from MD have 'eagle' like beaks!

Glad you brought this up, I was also worrying!

 

I got my chickens yesterday from Omlet and one of the Gingernut Rangers also has the tip of the beak missing. She seems to be eating fine, although is def bottom of the pecking order cos the others are all having a peck at her, poor girl

Hilda my Blubelle's beak doesn't quite fit properly, she is fine and has obviously adapted to use it very efficiently. OH calls her 'Freak Beak'

Mine too !!! I got my two rangers from Omlet 2yrs ago now, I wondered at the time if they would be ok and if was normal !! Definitely hasn't stopped them doing anything. I think I read or was told that they might have had their beaks trimmed as chicks so they wouldn't hurt each other? Anyway, over the last two years they appear to have grown a bit , unless its my imagination or wishful thinking !
