tmitchell
Is it best to have hardwood or softwood for the run, or does it not matter.
Redwing
Hardwood will last longer and are chunkier which means they drain well but as long as they are woodchippings I guess it doesnt really matter
K-F-C
Have you considered rubber chippings?
tmitchell
not thought about rubber to be honest, is it better, how expensive is it, and where would i find it?
Redwing
B&Q sell it but its a bit pricy at about £8 for 10kg having said that you dont ever need to replace it! I believe a popular make is 'Dunweedin' This website also sell it http://www.chickenkeeper.co.uk/shop/64-mud-management.html The ground underneath the Eglu needs good drainage for rubber chips though, some people are finding that the run goes soggy when they hose the chippings down otherwise
Ain't Nobody Here
Just to confuse you further, have you considered Easibed or Hemcore ? There are lots of other types of horse bedding available too!
Plum
I think hardwood chips are too big so I mixed playground ones in with them and it looked better but I don't hose them down I keep a dry run - sorry trying to keep a dry run.
Pedro1962
Just back from B&Q, where I was doing a recce for run floor-coverings. I noticed that they now do terracotta hardwood chips. Might be useful if you want to brighten up your set-up. I think I've decided to go with the natural version, as I want to colour co-ordinate with my
