KateG
How many hens could happily live in a WIR that is 4.3sqm? I know 4 is the standard answer but what if you add lots of levels to the run, using as much of the 6ft height as possible. And had 2 or more eglus? Just curious, you understand. moochoo
I think I'd still say 4. I know it's nice to have more but 1sqm per hen is the basic space required so with levels, etc. I don't think I'd have more.
Ain't Nobody Here
I would possibly consider having 5 in my WIR which is 5 sq m. They would need a lot of freeranging time though. I don't think I could have any more even with the extra "mezzanine" levels I have . Sorry, I'm sure that's not what you want to hear . chelsea
As much room as you can possibly afford is always best . To ensure happy, healthy and active hens it's best not to overcrowd. I would love some more hens but looking at my run - which is a healthy sized 15feet by 6 feet I just cant visualise any more than my 6 in there so will not be getting any more.
