My new duck house & run arrived today & we have built it. Its lovely & big, plenty of room for the two duckies (we couldn't afford another eglu!)

My concern is the run just sits on the ground, & where it is slightly uneven there may be a few gaps.

I was thinking of stapling a 'skirt' of chicken wire all the way round, then pegging it down with tent pegs like I do the Eglu run skirt. Do you think this will work or is chicken wire not good enough to keep Mr Foxy out?

I'm pretty sure foxes can bite through chickenwire . You might be better with slabs although they can still dig under them .

I have weldmesh under my wooden run, I unrolled it on the ground then lifted the run on top of it, the run also has a small skirt and there are tent pegs through both lots of wire to keep everything together

 

I also have weldmesh under my Eglu run

 

If you fill the runs with woodchip you cannot see the wire and I ahve never had a problem with the girls catching toes etc..

Thanks. Yes, I had considered mesh or a scratch mat but my duckies need a smooth surface so woodchip or rubber chips would be no good.

I'll try the chicekn wire & see how we get on, if there are any signs of digging, etc.
