bettyhen
Hi, we have had an eglu with 2 chickens Betty and Lulu for about 4 years now. Unfortunately Lulu died last week so poor Betty is home alone. We have got two new, but young girls waiting to be Betty`s friends, an arucana and a cream legbar, but they`re only 14 weeks so are living alongside Betty in a rabbit run until they are big enough to join her. So first question to all you knowledgeable people is: How old should little ones be before they are introduced to Betty? Secondly,as we are collecting a cube tomorrow and would like a couple more friends for Betty. What are Faverolles like? I`ve never met one but their pictures and descriptions sound amazing. Would really like a couple if they would be suitable. Thirdly, if they are suitable, does anyone know where I could hold of some near Leicestershire, where we live, or Northamptonshire or Warks (east) as we are reasonably close to those counties? Many thanks. Have lurked for years but never posted! Bettyhen Betty collection soon , to be home to: Rosita (cream legbar) No name ! many tried but none fitting yet! (lavender arucana)
sparkysmum
Hello Bettyhen & welcome Faverolles are on my wish list too but I'm having to wait as I don't want to push my luck with our neighbours. Hope you get yours & let us know how you get on. Best wishes Ax
Egluntyne
Welcome to the forum. It is best to wait till the young hens are at point of lay before you introduce them to an older one, ideally around 22 weeks, so that they will be big enough to stand up for themselves. meezers
I have a faverolle and she is the baby of the group in every sense of the word. She is the youngest in my 2nd group by maybe 4 weeks, She gets on well with the two birds I got the same time as her - cream legbar and dorking ,but she is a big bird, probably twice their size. VERY laid back, bottom of the pecking order and wouldn't say boo to a goose and is quick to get out the way of anyone who throws their weight about. Also very dozy- I've never known such a sleepy chook, stroke her a couple of times on her head and her eyes droop then she's asleep ! She loves cuddles, will sit happily for ages on my knee, just snoozing while I stroke her. As they are so placid I would be careful about which breeds you mix them with, I don't think I'll ever merge my 2 runs together as the warren and speckledy would stress her too much, but she's fine with the other chooks in my 2nd group. Griffin
I've got 6 Salmon Faverolle eggs due to hatch on July 4th. I'm hoping for a girl to join my flock I fell in love with one that I met at the Domestic Fowl Trust. She'd escaped from her pen and was wandering around with such presence about her
bettyhen
Thank you for the replies. We have collected the cube it looks great Am going to put the baby chooks in it tomorrow. Betty will be remaining in her eglu for now. Am going to put the eglu alongside the cube so that they can meet with no danger to the little ones. Betty was the "underhen" before, so hopefully she won`t be too horrid when they eventually mix. Good luck with your eggs Griffin, I hope you get 6 girls. How exciting! Your salmon faverolle sounds gorgeous meezers I really hope I manage to find someone selling them near us. Betty Bettytowers(named by son!) soon to be home to: Rosita and ?
