In my attempt to keep the chickens quiet in the morning I have tried to darken the cube.

The photos are below - i know its not pretty but needs must!

I used a piece of tarpaulin from B&Q which is far to big at 5x4 metres so its folded over a few times! I also used a couple of bungee cords (B&Q) and 2 poles from my Omlet netting.

At the back to ensure ventilation I made a little 'tent' area where the tarp goes over the netting poles that are a distance from the cube.

As my son had no school today I over slept ( ) so by the time I let them out it was nearer 8am and they were shouting - however dont know what time this started.

Will wait and see if makes any difference.

Looks good. :)

We use those black plastic backed picnic rugs with success. I also have placed the inner from an old dog basket (like a single duvet - our dog is a GSD  ) on top of the cube. This is not for insulation or for covering purposes as its not covering anything - it is for muffling the sound/soundproofing! So far so good.

Came down into the kitchen at 7.30am and heard Boooook BOOOOK BOOOOOOOOOOOK.

Dont know if this was the first shouts or had been going on a while. i shouted "shhh" then went and let them out. Checked the nest and there were two warm eggs one still wet so think it was probably a shout meaning "oooow this hurts".

So will have to see if the now dark cube makes any difference.
