saracook31
I adopted Beyonce in March from a relative after a fox killed the rest of his chooks. The morning after the attack she laid a soft egg (understandable with the shock!) and the first day I had her she laid another. .. Since then, not a single egg! She is only about 18months old, happy & healthy.. any ideas?!
chelsea
Hi Sara I have moved this to "clinic" for you where you may get some more replies. If you haven't wormed your girls I would recommend a course of wormer to ensure healthy hens, Flubenvet is the wormer of choice on here. With regards to the softies some hens do go through a spell of it sometimes. Cut down on treats and give treats in the afternoon only this will encourage the hens to eat their pellets in the morning which have all the nutrients in them. Do they have access to grit? saracook31
They don't have many treats and when they do its afternoon or evening. They have grit and oyster shell, all my others are laying most days so don't know why she wouldn't! I've also wormed them all as it did cross my mind. Also checked her vent for signs of worms/mites but all looks ok! Mystery!
Woodcat
hey I took a chook in the sortof same situation as you did except i took her in after about two months. She was an exbat but before she laid an egg every day. For the two months before i took her on she laid about 5 eggs in total. However she gradually started to lay again before building up to nearly every day now. How long is it since the attack? Beth
saracook31
Over 2 months, nearly 3 now i reckon... so has been quite a while!
Woodcat
hey That is quite a while however with Renee what we were getting by this point was softies and very odd shaped ones. So with the fact she had to deal with intros (i'm guessing) it's possible. I have yet to ever understand chickens. You could try her on lifeguard tonic it's expensive but it did help Renee.
