the girls are laying a bit irreguarly. we usuall dont get any eggs until the afternoon. is this weird?

anyway to the point.... sunday we caught twinkle bottom laying an egg in our lavender bush?! at 500PM we looked all over the garden with no luck of any others, we obviously need to nip this in the bud. i waited until 100pm today to let them in the garden.... and yet again off she ran to the lavender bush. what would you suggest? would it be wise to keep them in the run for a few days?

to be honest if she continues to lay there its not tooo much of a pain in the backside.... how ever it would be nice to have the eggs laid in the eglu. will this encourage the others not to lay in the nest?

I would pop a couple of golf balls or ceramic eggs in the nest box, and keep them confined to the run for a few days. It should get the message across.

Don't know about laying, but my chickens love the taste of lavendar. What was a perfectly healthy lavendar bush is now a shadow of its former self.

Mmmm not sure whether I would like the taste of lavender-flavoured eggs. Worth a try though

How funny!! One of our sussex stars jumps over the fence to lay her egg in the lavendar bush outside the front door. She's given the postman a shock more than once. Then she jumps back over and back in with the others!!!

 

Perhaps the lavendar soothes them!!!

Perhaps they like the smell! My girls like to jump up and strip the leaves from the lowest branches of the plum tree - very amusing to watch - they all do it, including the two ex batts. I think once they find something they like, it's hard to stop them.
