missuscluck
Mummy hen and her 3 chicks are all being fed on chick crums at the moment. The chicks are now 2 weeks old. I wondered when I shoud offer mum some more different food. She is not laying so I guess she dosent need layers mash. Is it ok to give her some corn. I was just worried about the babys getting it. What about treats like veg leaves etc. Your thoughts gratefuly recived.
craftyhunnypie
Well I put a pot in for Marlene, hung it on the broody pen mesh, out of reach of the chicks. She has layers pellets, Bit of wheat, mixed corn, oats, sweetcorn & sometimes a bit of boiled rice. She is fascinating to watch, as she gets some treats in her beak, cracks them up & then drops it for her chicks to eat. They are now 3 weeks old, so it can't be doing them any harm. They have a hopper full of chick crumb. Emma.x

missuscluck
I thought she would be ok with corn and treats. OH says I worry too much if they were out and about in a farm yard they would be eating all sorts of stuff. I have chucked some corn in for her to scratch and peck at and she has been cracking it open for the babys too. They are so clever arnt they

Giving them corn let me hand feed them
