Parsley
Hi I have two 9 week old Splash Orpington bantams which I got last Saturday (gorgeous babies!) and am picking up two 10 week old Lavender Araucana bantams this Saturday. I have kept chooks in the past so know how awful new introductions can look with all the pecking etc but wondered what to expect from these youngsters, especially given that the Orps will only have been around for a week longer. Has anyone introduced young to young and how did it go? Many thanks.
The Dogmother
The introductions will be the same as for mature hens, especially as the first lot have had a chance to establish their own pecking order. See this guide for any advice
Parsley
Thank you for that link. Interestingly enough, the pecking order keeps shifting slightly between the two at the moment so I think they are still trying to work it out! Hopefully, this indecision might work in my favour as there is not a defined establishment yet. Also, they came from a mix of other breeds and ages of growers in together so will only have had seven days to enjoy their solitude! Wish me luck (and peace and harmony.......)
