when should the empty shells be removed from under a broody hen , some chicks have hatched whilst others are still pipping .

i don't want to upset the broody hen by removing the empty cases , but i don't want the chicks hurting themselves either.

My broody kicked out the empty shell - only way I realised that something had hatched, otherwise I wouldn't have had a clue, very quiet chick to begin with.

I took any empty shells away each time I checked on the hatching progress

I kept them until all the chicks had hatched so I good see what had hatched and when.

i left everything where it was until my broody got off the nest and took the chics out for the first time. i then cleaned her nest out and put fresh bedding in, she didn't mind a bit!
