pullusleggus
Hello. I'm a brand new chicken owner (since Friday) so I don't know what an ill chicken looks like. My gingernut is very active, nosy and totally with it. The pepperpot is sleepy, slow moving and generally unreactive. Is she just being docile or is she ill? I'm worried she is ill. She isn't eating or drinking as much as the other either I think - as far as I have seen. Can anyone help please?
Egluntyne
Welcome to the forum. Could just be the shock of the move. It takes them a few days to settle. So long as she is drinking, that is the main thing.
Guest
If she is eating and drinking then that's a good sign. If you're still concerned tomorrow then I'd ring the breeder you got them from, or Omlet if the chicken came from them.
pullusleggus
Thank you so much for the reassurance and advice I made the mistake of reading the health section (having found it) and started to feel really worried after some of the sad stories. I'm at work most of tomorrow but I'll check her first thing and watch her closely when I get back - ready to call the vet if necessary. Thank you again. So quick despite the late hour! pullusleggus
I let Ridy out this morning and she has produced a lot of white watery poo in the night. She seems a bit better now (but very thirsty of course). What does this mean and what should I do? I'd be lost without being able to ask all this. Thank you for any help! I'll have to leave for work in an hour so I'll check later, I'm getting spoilt by the very prompt responses last night.
Ain't Nobody Here
Welcome to the forum . There's a thread here all about poo (hope you've had your breakfast ). It might give you some ideas and/or reassurance .
pullusleggus
Thank you for the thread. My only concern is it doesn't cover pure white poo/urine without any coloured bits at all. I'll try the yoghurt though. I'm a great fan of live yoghurt for treating stomach problems. Must go to work now. I'd rather spend another day with my chickens! Egluntyne
You say she hasn't been eating much. That plus the settling in is probably all it is.
cluckynikki
I do remember when my two were settling in there was quite a bit of white milky type liquid deposited on the patio. They still do it from time to time and are both fine.
pullusleggus
Thanks for all the support. She (Ridy) is looking much better now. It must have been the move after all. I was thrown because Lottie has been so well and the contrast between them was so great. I'll sleep better tonight.
