Saronne
I've somehow managed to purchase 3 lovely light Sussex girlies this weekend...not sure how that happened They're only 13 weeks old and still on growers pellets. How long will they need to be on these? Can I gradually start mixing in Layers pellets in a couple of weeks? Saronne x
ubereglu
They need to be fed growers feed until they're about 16 weeks old, then at 17 weeks you can start to mix the food.
feemcg
Mine go on to layers mash/pellets from about 14 weeks or whenever they're introduced to the older hens. In a mixed age flock it's not feasible to give different feeds and it won't do the chooks a bit of harm.
Saronne
Thanks for the replies. I wondered about the feasibility of feeding a mixed age flock. I'm able to separate the youngsters from the older ladies for the next two or three weeks, but when we go on holiday, it would be great if my son could just feed them all the same stuff. By then, the babies will be around 16 weeks. My only question is, do later-laying birds (purebreeds) need to be on growers for longer than hybrids? Falkor
I was told by an experienced pure breed breeder that my Orps should of been on growers until 24 weeks + as they are slower to mature.
