*mummy_hen*
to get rid of flys?!! We have never had a problem before, i don't even think it is the chickens/ducks which are causing them as they aren't even in the runs but we seem to have loads of pesky flys in the garden this year. What would anyone recomment to repel the little nasties? Thanks
chelsea
I make up a cheap solution in a garden spray bottle. Water, a few drops of citronella oil, lavender oil & eucalyptus - give it a good shake and spray around. I spray it on an old rag and hang it in the rafters of my walk in run and it wafts in the wind like a little fly repellant flag. I also spray it in the run on really hot days when the girls are out free ranging. You can also pop some citronella on a piece of kitchen towel and place in the poo tray. Last night I also sprayed some kitchen towel and hung the kitchen towel from my curtain pole by my french doors to stop the flies coming in the back door - not very attractive, but a temporary solution that worked! Chook n Boo Mum
Where can I get citronella oil from? Do Holland & Barrett type places sell it? I asked in our local horse supplies shop at the weekend & got told it's illegal to sell for use on horses, so she can't sell it....not sure why you would use it on horses, nor why it should be illegal but that's what she said. chelsea
Yes you can get it from Holland & Barrett. I got mine online in a larger bottle, I've just "googled it" but cannot find the retailer that I bought mine from now.
hilda-and-evadne
Where can I get citronella oil from? I bought citronella from the pharmacy counter at Sainsbury.
