katieD
hi got a 7 week old begium bantam- i rescued it as a day old chick. was wondering when i will be able to sex it and if so how? its got a small comb- could post pic later if it helps? never had bantams before so got no idea? also cant decide whether to try introducing it to my other 3 hens or just get it a friend? its been in a run next to them for about 3 weeks now- the older girls do keep trying to peck it through the run. when the girls were free ranging yesterday i let the bantam out with them (supervised!) and 2 of them completely ignored it and one of them every now and again chased it off! whats the next step!!?? thanks for your help katie x fifi lola dora chirpy the baby bantam
Olly
Afraid I don't know much about sexing bantams, but if you post a picture or two someone on here will probably have an idea. Re introductions: I wouldn't attempt this until your girl is much, much older. Having her where the others can see her (but not attack her) is fine, but she is too small to take her chances with them yet. It can be difficult to integrate a bantam with hybrids anyway, but definitely wait until she's fully grown - 16 weeks or so - before you try letting them have contact. Patricia W
It was 5 months before we could reliably sex our Polish Bantams. The usual confirmation is when "she" crows!
Scramble
I'm not sure how old it is when you can tell! I wanted 2 girl pekins POL, but he only had young ones so I can homw with an 11weeks old and a 13week old... I didn't even think for a second they might be boys They are both girlied though. Hopefully someone will come around soon Good Luck
