Help needed. DS 4th Birthday on Saturday 4th July

Hi guys

 

I have been sitting surfing the net for ages now, then it struck me I need the omleteers help!!! :idea:

 

As I can only find crummy American websites on How to.... Can anyone please help with yummy recipes for

 

1. Chocolate sponge cake

2. Butter cream icing - I may use this to fill above sponge, but would also like to add colour to, to make below..

3. Fairy cakes recipe

4. How on earth do you make fondant icing???

5. How do I find about 100 extra hours this week to make house look nice for adults coming with kids to DS party!! (apart from not sitting on the net!)

I make a normal sponge, but replace some of the flour with cocoa powder. I think its about 2 or 3 tablespoons worth.

 

2. Butter cream icing - I may use this to fill above sponge, but would also like to add colour to, to make below..

I wish I could help. I had the same problem for this weekend as it was my ED 12th and she had lots of her friends coming over. I just did essentials, and put papers and stuff in carrier bags to be sorted later.

They have some gorgeous cakes! Really love the meadow cake with all the different flowers on it.

Qs 1- 4, can't improve on Bluekarin's answers.

 

Q5. You don't. They're also parents of four year olds, so know the odds. However, you could always sweep the mess into one corner, cover it in a couple of large pieces of ripped wrapping paper and bemoan how your child never clears up after himself :whistle::shh::liar:

Re the chocolate sponge, I keep the flour content the same as the standard recipe & add 2-3 tablespoons of cocoa powder which has been mixed to a paste with a little water.

 

Rarely use butter icing, so can't recommend a recipe.

 

Fairy cakes, I use the standard Victoria sandwich recipe (4oz each butter, sugar & flour with 2 eggs) & blob it into cake cases. I drizzle melted chocolate over the top, criss crossed with white glace icing :drool: Much quicker than hand icing each cake!

 

Buy fondant icing, you are too short on time!

 

Open all drawers & cupboard doors and fill to the brim with any toot lying around, run the hoover round, clean to loo/sink etc, make sure "Ooops, word censored!"ody's moved any ornaments or written in the dust and have a glass of elderflower cordial with fizzy water/Pimms ready to stick in their hand as they arrive....shut all other doors so they can't see the real mess...and have the party outside under a gazebo so all the dropped food lands on the grass not the carpet!

 

.................and I looooove that bee cake...and the flowery ones.....not sure about Mickey mouse though!!!

if you've got any beetroot thats ready to pick

this is a vary good cake ( allways popular at the sandwell show make one for the display I help with) it should work for a sponge jusy divide it into 2-7" sponge tins in stead of a loaf tin or use it for fairy cakes I use bourville (give it a reddy brown coluor or fair trades Devine dark chocolate one of my friends who use's had this recipe uses Lidils 70% chocolate

beetroot fresher the better pick crate bake is the best

 

Beetroot Chocolate Loaf

Ingredients

TIP: The addition of raw grated beetroot gives this cake a lovely moist texture as well as a fresher flavour than cooked beetroot. Use a really good dark chocolate with a cocoa fat % of 70%.

Ingredients

8oz SR flour, 1oz cocoa powder, 1 tsp baking powder, 4oz caster sugar, Pinch of salt, 3oz dark chocolate melted, 3oz butter melted, 4oz raw grated beetroot peeled weight, 2 eggs beaten(medium to large 2 small eggs not enough)

Method

Heat the oven to GM4/180’C/350’F. Grease and line a 2lb-loaf tin.

Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, salt and baking powder.

Stir in the sugar, beetroot, melted chocolate and butter and the eggs.

Turn into the tin and bake for 50-60 minutes until firm on top and an inserted skewer comes out clean.
