4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

Hi,

I'm a real newbie and have recently got 3 Welsummer Bantams approx age 16-18 weeks. One of them seems to have 'rough' looking legs with flakiness. I have looked at pics of scaly leg mite but don't think it is that. The scales aren't lifting as shown in pics but just look untidy. Anybody know if this is normal? Or does it need a little treatment? Otherwise she is eating well and plumage is lovely. Any help very gratefully received!

Hi I'm afraid I don't have any experience of this but just wondered if its worth treating as scaly leg mite for the moment just in case??

Do you have a picture? It might just be she's growing new scales underneath and she's looking a bit tatty, but it again might be scaly leg mite, but it's difficult to tell just by your description.

Thanks for replying. I might very well go down that route....just to be safe! I've read it can be treated with surgical spirit. We'll get some in ready to use at short notice!

Haven't got a pic at the moment. Hubby had a good look at her legs and says it looks how flaky skin looks on people! Hoping it's just new scales then....but will get some treatment just in case! Thanks a lot!

It certainly wouldn't do any harm to dunk her legs in the surgical spirit and coat with vaseline. Might soften her dry scales
