Local Show but how to display the eggs? UPDATE !!!

Recommended Posts

The children want to enter their eggs in the local flower & produce show in a couple of weeks, but there is no guide on how they should be displayed.

Anyone got any tips or experiences ?

Thanks so much

Not just eggs, they are RHS Show winning eggs!!

We got a first and third and when we looked the prize card had an RHS emblem on them.

There were loads of entries, some in baskets some in boxes but in the end it all came down to size and colour consistency and freshness of the white.

Extra free ranging today for the girls and now to persuade OH that a green egg layer and white egg layer would be the next step!

Thanks for the advice, I like the baskets, took the plunge and asked the show organiser what was eggspected and this is what the Judge replied!

Each exhibit is awarded a maximum of 20 marks.

3 marks awarded for uniformity of colour, shape and size

10 marks for external features size, texture and colour of shell, shape and cleanliness

7 marks for internal quality, airspace, yoke and white

General points

Eggs to be uniform in size, colour and shape.

Shells free from stains and dirt and of good texture.

When broken small airspace denotes freshness.

Yolk to be a good colour, standing proud, free from blood and meat spots.

White to be firm, translucent, and free from discolouration.

No cracks in shells

Busy finding a cool spot to store this weeks batch, what a time to have a striking hen!
