Can you keep a non broody & broody (with chicks/eggs) together?

was a little curious as at the welsh mountain zoo I've seen chicks with their mother and other hens & a cockerel

Yes they could be kept as a big flock. sorry didn't know if you meant all in one run all the time. a big free-range flock normally has hens with chicks but I wouldn't risk it with a couple of hens and a confined run.

you're right tom my big girls got out with the chicks and mum the other day and were all quite happy together in the garden, however if one of the big girls goes near the chicks run when they are in beauty goes bonkers. i think the confined space makes her more protective. the chicks weren't bothered at all! none of the big girls have shown any sign of aggression towards the chick... they have been able to see tham from day one... but there's no way i would risk mixing them together in a run.
