PayPal Rant

I'm steaming AND hanging on to a total rip off 0870 number!

I sold to MJ tickets on Ebay - I emailed my buyer right after I got up to the news that he was dead to tell her I would refund all minus fees as soon as it was all sorted. She was very happy to hear so quickly.

Then Ebay start shouting all over the press about how wonderful they are because they are going to make sure everyone gets refunds and refund all the fees.

Well I found out last week exactly how they are going to make sure we refund - they have frozen our PayPal accounts - not giving a fig about the fact that we are waiting for refunds and are not exactly getting a lot of indication of when the actual money will come through.

Anyway - I need my PayPal account unfrozen (I was about to buy stuff off Ebay USA to be delivered when I'm on holiday and I HAVE to pay with PayPal as those sausages at Ebay now insist upon it) So I'm trying to put my refund through and just swallow the loss until I get my money back.

So into Paypal I go - hunt down the transaction and click the refund button I get a message saying

"Your refund must not exceed your available balance. If you have funds in another currency balance, you may want to consider transferring funds from other currency balances."

There is £83 in my account - not even close to the amount of the refund. BUT the bottom of the page says

"If your PayPal account balance doesn't have enough money in it to cover this refund, money will be automatically transferred from your backup funding source."

BUT it won't let me proceed - I can then either edit or cancel. So now I@m held in a queue which is "greater than 15 minutes" on an 0870 number to find out how on earth PayPal expect me to refund my buyer!!! (19 minutes so far)

Any guesses as to whether or not I'll get a sensible answer???

50 minutes!

And yes they wouldn't do it online because my account was restricted. I tried to point out that it was impossible to remove the restriction if I couldn't actually send the refund as the restriction is in place until I refund this transaction. Woman was more like a robot than a human though.

I have had to send an email authorising them to take the additional funds. I BCC'd my buyer and also emailed her to let her know the situation. I'm not sure I should hold my breath whilst they process this.

Goodness knows what would have happened if the buyer wanted the commemorative tickets instead of the refund! Sorry I offered her the option really as it could have meant a lot of bother for me.

The person I spoke to at Ebay a couple of weeks ago was briliant.

I don't believe in coincidences. I bought the MJ tickets intending to sell on for a profit as I hadn't bought V tickets due to holiday commitments which had since changed. I thought sell the MJ tickets at a profit which would cover the extra I needed to pay to buy V tickets on Ebay. A couple of days after MJ died I got an email from Ebay about my V ticket seller - phoned them, he's gone dodgy so they issued a full refund! The second pair of V tickets I sold were to my boss, at face value, as I felt very sorry for him missing out as he was driving his wife to hospital when they went on sale. He is more than happy to wait for his refund - he would have had to wait if he'd been lucky with Ticketmaster too!

So now I have no ticket for V oh and because I was seeing them there I didn't by Specials tickets. So I'm a bit hacked off about that - was looking forward to them CCR said they were great!

(I can't say it loudly enough)

Enter either the company name or the 0870 / 0845 number and it will (usually) provide either a geographic number (01xxx, 02x, etc) or a free phone number.

Sometimes a geographic number is "better" than a free phone number if you use a contract mobile with included minutes. (I have more minutes than I normally use... mainly because I also get unlimited downloads which I use for TomTom, so I don't want to change my contract. Any calls to geographic numbers are therefore effectively "free".)

Just in case you didn't hear me the first time...

I have a Geo number for Ebay - they are meant to be exclusive! I went there first - I NEVER call an 0870 number. The UK number didn' work and I can't find my T&C to check what North America numbers cost on my package - I believe they are included but with a time restriction.

Surprise Surprise PayPal have not responded to my email or sent the refund. I need to have a PayPal account ASAP so I have another I can use - I'm going to refund the buyer the £83 that is in my PayPal acount and if they still havn't processed the refund by the time I get MY refund I will send her a cheque and have that paypal account blocked by my bank and credit card. All this will mean she doesn't get the fees back unless they ever sort themselves out. I can't be the only person in this situation by a long shot.

I've phoned ebay today and got put through to high level at Paypal.

First person has told me nonsense and they have sent three emails (none of which I have actually recieved) telling me that I must transfer the money into my paypal account from my bank account taking 7 to 9 days - this cannot come from my credit card (where my refund goes - I'm expected to have "spare" money in the bank!!!) When that has been processed I can send the refund. This restriction is on my account because I have to make this refund!

They have lost the plot here - sellers are not valued one iota by this company any more - we can't give negative feedback, we cant give a refund, we can't not give a refund. Worlds gone flipping mad

I'm seriously considering giving up on PayPal. I joined eBay over 8 years ago. Then I signed up for PayPal when it was just based in America. They would not confirm my address, I had no house number, no street name and no post or zip-code. So every invoice I sent or received said (address unconfirmed). When PayPal europe came on the scene we signed up and our address was confirmed. Now since May 2008 our address is back as unconfirmed........ Yes I've been on to PayPal. I just keep getting a standard piece of BUMF saying they need more information. So far I've sent my Passport details, Birth Certificate, Utility bills, CC statements, Bank statements, Union card details, Social Services ID card even my Welding Gas account details. Guess what I've received a reply from PayPal saying - they need more information - :wall::wall::wall:

Now this is the strange part, I'm PayPal internationaly VERIFIED and I'm a Paypal PREMIER account holder.... Over 1000 trades and 100% feedback. Very :?

sorry to digress but what is 'V' ?

V is V Festival, run by Virgin. I went a few years ago and it was quite good fun. I got to see the Pixies, one of my all time fave bands :D but was a bit disapointed with some of their set. Its done over a weekend with the same bands playing at Chelmsford and Staffordshire (they play one night at one of the venues and then the next night at the other venue so you get to see lots of bands). It is very corporate, but for my first festival experience it was very good. Now I can't get tickets for love nor money as they sell them just after the last one finishes and you have no idea who is playing.

But back to paypal. They really have gone against sellers. Its disgraceful how they treat them. Yes, there are some unscrupulous sellers, but they shouldn't tarnish everyone with that same brush.
