BigGav
Hi This is BigGav again My mum had posted some pictures of my 2 light sussex, I have some better pictures now and was wondering can anyone tell me are they Girls or Boys and possibly what age they are. thanks everyone
Chook n Boo Mum
Assuming they are both the same age, which I couldn't comment on, I'd say top is a boy & bottom a girl given the extra red headgear he's sporting........but what do I know, my light sussex (which I think they may be ) are still in the eggs under Buffie Sha x
mostin
I don't think they are the same age. I think the top chook could be about 14 weeks old and the bottom chook about 10 weeks old. I think they might both be boys . My buff sussex boy had no face furniture at 12 weeks but he did have a big curly tail feather all of a sudden like your bottom chook has. None of my girl sussex have ever had curly tail feathers. The top chook doesn't have a massive curly tail yet, but it is quite long and the legs look quite sturdy . Can you post some more pictures for us in a couple of weeks so we can see how they're doing. My sussex's seem to be changing by the day at the moment. Egluntyne
I'd say top - boy, botom- girl. MY LS cockerel had a noticebable red comb and tiny wattles at 4 weeks. The legs of the top one are very manly.
Mutrix Farmers
I agree with Egluntine
atsw
I agree too. In the top picture the wing feathers have very well defined black edges, which tends to indicate a boy in this breed. I also think he's older than the chicken in the second photo. Andrew
BigGav
Hi BigGav mum here both chooks are supposed to be the same age.. they were the same size when we got them about 5 weeks old. we took them back to the supplier. he said the top one was a boy and exchanged him for a girl.. unfortunately he didn't have any more sussex, so we took another RIR. who is about 4 weeks younger than the others. but seems to be settling in well. suppose time will tell whether the bottom one is a bou as well. thanks everyone for your replies. this chicken buisiness is certainly fun. we are certainly have lots of debates about chickens. BigGav
hi BigGavs mum again been trying to work out how old the chooks are. must have been having a mental block. we bought them the day after the Eglu arrived. so by my calculations they are about 14 weeks old. feel as though we have had them forever. thats another 5 weeks at least before we get an egg. thanks again.
