ScottishMike
Hey everyone - I've not posted much since I met with a 'brick wall' response from the Mrs about keeping hens - didn't seem much point in kidding myself she'd come around anytime soon Anyway, her Aunt and Uncle live a few miles away and keep two hens, and I casually volunteered to look after their hens when they went on holiday. Astonishingly the Mrs didn't raise a single objection to this So a few days ago the hens were delivered complete with eglu and run and all the feed etc, and they are contendedly clucking away now in my back garden, in the rain Kids are completely taken with them - but instead of persuading the Mrs, actually all it does is annoy her because my 9 year old daughter is constantly badgering her to get hens of our own Ah well, we have them for another week, and then they go back - presumably that's entirely why my Mrs is completely happy for us to have them

ScottishMike
Oh, and I should also say my Mrs is less than pleased with the draw the hens have created to the local population of kids and their mums - she got out of the shower after work yesterday to a line of people at the door - I came home from work to 15 kids and adults in the house and playing in the garden The first day we had the hens, I came home and found 8 kids playing in the garden - and a barrage of questions about the hens, most of which I couldn't possibly answer as they'd been delivered while I was at work

laurmurf
welcome back ScottishMike! A week with the holidaying girls might convince her that they're really no bother at all (and the eggs are fandabydozy for a lovely wee sponge!)

quickcluck
I've everything crossed that you will persuade her, are your kids old enough to have a vote that 'counts'? YOu could also go down the line of getting the same colour eglu and hens and say they didn't go back
scrambledhead
Good luck with changing Mrs's mind! My OH has never been a morning man until we got our girls, he's first out now to go and check up on them
mostin
Good luck Scottish Mike. Tell your Mrs that the novelty wears off with the neighbours after a while. We still get a few visits but nowhere near as many as in the 1st few months. That may help to ease your path
