welshnik
Hi After 3 weeks of trouble free chook-keeping, my two girls haven't laid for 5 days now. We've just replaced the dust in their dustbath and has gone straight to it and is having a bath. They've just freeranged for half hour and seem fine in themselves, found a snail which she quite enjoyed. Used the tip of the water hose to get them back in the eglu and they went back in fine once they realised it got them away from the spray! So thanks whoever gave that tip!! We can't find or see mites anywhere but have ordered Flubenvet in case they have worms ( is sitting down a lot in the run on the bark). Any thoughts, Omleteers? It's so odd for them not to be laying! welshnik
Space Chick
One of my girls stopped laying for a couple of weeks, and there was nothing wrong with her, I think it was just her getting used to laying. So It could be just getting into the swing of things for your girls. Are they behaving normally, not hunching themselves up or anything? I think worming them is not a bad idea as they are both not laying. It might be an idea to dust their eglu with red mite powder just incase or add some diatom into their dustbath, as mites can stop them laying aswell. Olly
As Debs has said, treating for worms/mites isn't a bad idea. Otherwise, it's probably just that they're not quite ready, if they are eating and drinking and looking 'busy' then it doesn't sound as if they are ill. Just a thought - have you been feeding a lot of treats? It might be worth confining them to pellets/mash for a few days, and see if that makes any difference. welshnik
Yes - we've been testing out the list of treats to see what they like! My Flubenvet arrived yesterday (with some free mealworms, I jumped out of my skin when they fell out of the packet!!!) and we are going to get some powder in case. laid us a yesterday but still nothing from the usual reliable so there must be *something* wrong with them. seems happier after her dustbath though so we'll have to keep that topped up with sand and earth etc. Thanks all.
