splodge88
First there were the funny head/neck movements I posted about a couple of days ago, which seemed to go. However, now she looks under the weather because she's standing in one position and not moving, closing her eyes quite a lot, not interested in people so much (they usually all run over), and her face looks quite dark instead of a healthy red. Please help, all advice appreciated.
sandyhas3chucks
did you check her crop first thing in the moening. before acess to food? If full &squishy, please take her straight to a vet. She's sounding poorly.IF it is full & squishy it is sour crop & the funny neck movements might mean you don't have much time to sort it. Will look for update 1st thing if I can. Didn't see her crop this morning but will have a look tomorrow morning, not sure what I'll be looking for exactly but I'll try...The vets round here don't have much knowledge of chickens at all so if she has a poorly crop what do you advise? beach chick
if she's still poorly in the morning, I would try the vet. either phone around for a chook expert, or see what your local vet says - even if not expert, they may prescribe antibiotics which could help. otherwise, people on here recommend live maggots for crop probs - its not something I know much about, but I'm sure someone with more expertise will be along later. good luck! sandyhas3chucks
do a search for sour crop(because of the weird head movements) there are loads & loads of suggestions, But I would search the rvs website for "find a vet" and use the advance one tick poultry. Also post back on here your city/town, someone may well recommend you one, tere is also the "find a vet or recommended vet section on here, what ever... you will be better prepared in the morning or the future! Egluntyne
Has she been wormed? A hunched and miserable attitude can often denote an infestation.
splodge88
Hi again, all is well! Not sure what was wrong, however we gave her some activia yoghurt because we reasoned it couldn't make things any worse, and amazingly she brightened up! When we felt her crop it felt kind of watery, but much the same as the others. They're all happy chickens now but thanks for all the advice I was given!
