Shrieking bantam

Recommended Posts

I have a five month old pekin that has recently started laying but has begun making quite loud hiccuping shrieks. She is still feeding, but less enthusiastically, pooing fine but is more subdued than her mates. No runny nose or sneezing, she extends her neck when she makes the noise. She choked on a newt(!) last week and we were quite vigorous trying to help her - she was going blue and in huge distress, but she seemed fine since! Any advice would be hugely appreciated, we are new to this and they are much loved!

Hello, welcome to the forum. :D

Sorry I can't really help, it sounds like a sore throat after that trauma. She has an interesting preference for food. Do you think she may have something stuck there she is trying to dislodge? :?

Perhaps she is, I hadn't thought of that. We have a bluebelle who always announces when she's done, I have the feeling though that she's not well, she's staying very close to us and seems very subdued, they are usually so chuffed after laying! She's flicking her head too, I wondered about gape but that is a silent mouth movement?

Plum, thank you, perhaps a hot toddy! I guess she may have scratched her throat and its irritated, this lovely summer weather we're having can't be helping!
