Near Death Experience

Recommended Posts

Well we had a shock yesterday

We are dogsitting a Jack Russell / Border terrier cross for my in laws.

She was absolutely fine with the chooks.......left them alone...........came when called etc etc.

Than I was just too trusting :( we were playing ball with her in the garden and she must have got a bit too excitied) strolled past the omlet netting........ and before I knew it she had lunged and grabbed Tinkers wing.......all hell broke loose, I shouted at the dog to LEAVE IT! she let go and poor old Tinker hobbled straight to the run minus a whole bunch of feathers. All I could do was burst into tears, the dog ran in, the kids came running out they burst into tears, my OH told the dog off, the neighbours must have wondered what the heck was going on!!

We managed to coax Tinker out with some grapes and checked her over, no blood but she was limping badly but could see no obvious damage. We thought the shock might kill her in the night, they all went to bed.

Got up the next morning expecting the worst, She came jumping out of the coop, ate drank and had even laid an egg  .......what a superstar! she seems fine now and is walking normally again. I felt real anger towards the dog though! and she is now on lead in the garden, I know its a terriers instinct, but our Terrier is fine with the chooks and free ranges with them.

Never will I let my guard down again, it was horrible to witness. poor defenceless chickens :(

Still feel guilty :(
