Doe anyone know about wrens? We have two families of wrens. One is nesting at the side of the house and the other is in a big clematis montana at the front. One of the birds has been making a loud chattering (what sounds like a warning call ) incessantly now for at least 3 days. It's sitting in a small tree at the moment, shouting its head off.

 

I can't see any external reason for it. Is it warning others away from its nest? Or is this simply terrotorial? I'm baffled!

Odd, I noticed 'my' Wren doing the same just yesterday

Can't be the weather as he/she was doing it all yesterday in the rain and now in the sunshine. It sort of grates on your nerves after a bit. And I thought my cockerel made a noise!

Wrens are THE most annoyingly noisy birds there are! I think it's probably a warning call, there may be a cat around or even just a magpie or similar. It's always amazing to me that such a tiny bird can produce such a huge sound!

Do they have young that have just fledged? Maybe a second brood. I've seen them do this and they have often had young around.

 

Did you know that the male Wren builds several nests and then lets the female choose which one she likes.

the wren at the side kept it up for about 10 days, then stopped - when the one at the front started.... All is now quiet. But I think you may be right. And yes, we have a lot of nests around the garden.
