red top fly catcher and feathers

Recommended Posts

Hi All my red top was delivered last week and after reading through other messages I kept it far away from the house, however it only had one fly in it, while the run and garden was like heathrow airport with flies landing and taking off. I moved it a bit closer and it now has 6 flies, people wrote to say how smelly it was, I should be so lucky, how close can I have it to the run any advice would be brill.

I have recently found lots of feathers in the garden and in the run, I dont think the girls are fighting, it is too early for them to be moulting, they are ex batts dont know if that makes a difference

thank you

Hi Jackie

I am not sure about the feathers but the fly trap I can help with :D

I like you recvd my flytrap and was expecting it to be honking :vom: and full of flies within the first few days but I was dissapointed.....until the third week that it was out and then I got a whiff (YUK!) and when I looked it was filling up with flies very nicely.

I think it must take a little while for the gubbins to activate.......mine has been out in the garden for a few months now so probably need to order a refil. thanks for reminding me :D

do a search on fly bait!

A few came up. will let you know when arrives. though I use the milk bottle top flitraps.

you won't want to ever empty & reuse one again aftret the 1st time!

I catch gazillions onm fly papers. found best place on the ground despite all instructions. Covered with upturned old wire hanging baskets. ever so attractive! (NOT!) but sayisfying!!!!!!!! :D

Where can you get the refills from?

Ebay - that's where I purchased mine from and they have been fab - I have hung mine from the top of the chicken run but mine is a wooden creation which is 6 foot high not an eglu. I bought 2 originally at the beginning of June and I've now just purchased another 2. They started filling up within the first couple of days - I can't recommend them enough.

We bought ours the end of July and it is always buzzin' in there!

Too early to notice the alleged smell and ours is high up on the lower limbs of our Sycamore tree. However, there are most definately fewer flies over the pond and in the greenhouse -:dance: .

OH is considering one for the WIR.

£8.50 with free P&P on eBay - where else!! :D

Kind rgds,

Pat & Steve
