bleeding girls update

Recommended Posts

Ok, so thanks to redwings advice, I separated the girls last night and had a good look at them. Twinkle isn't prolapsed at all, just bald and a bit mucky round the feathers. Stella and Lily stopped bleeding and there was no more blood this morning. Betsy is still as good as ever. I put lousing powder on and around them last night in case that was the cause. Stella was not looking good all day and spent most of it asleep in the nesting box. I looked in on her at 615pm, she was wheezy and sleepy and had little maggots living on her beak :vom: . How did I not notice this before? I had to go out for 2 hours and on my return she was already dead  . Poor thing. A blessing it was so quick, but I feel so bad. What to do about the others? What were the maggots? Can anyone help? Is it fly strike? I am going to disinfect the eglu tonight and worm them as well (probably overdue). I feel rotten.

So sorry for your loss :(

It could have been fly strike

when i was 7, one of our rabbits had fly strike (little maggots on her bum & ears) i remember my mum had to give her a warm bath to get them off(she then took her to the vets the next day)

I'm really sorry to hear what happened :( That was really quick. There is another thread just below this about flystrike which may help you prevent it with the others.

If the others have mucky bottoms they could have it as well and as I understand you can wash them off and use tweezers to make sure there are none left. :? Hope they haven't and are soon healed and back to normal :)
