rufusrooster
we have had Gene 6 weeks tomorrow and she was supposed to be 7 months old when we got her, that would make her now 36 weeks old, she was described as a Cochin hybrid, still no sign of any eggs, she has a tuft of feathers on her head as you can see from the pic, and not very big comb and wattles at all, they are bigger than when we 1st got her and she does not crouch when you try to pick her up, i dont know weather this is normal but you look at her and her face and top half of her comb seem to be very red and u think great, eggs anytime soon, but when you look again later they are just pale pink, anyone know why this is ? and is this a sign that she is probably nowhwere near 36 weeks old ? Redwing
Do you have a recent pic? in the pic below she does look very young, and if I was completely guessing I would say she is between 16-20 weeks in that pic
rufusrooster
this was taken a few days ago, as you can see her comb and wattles are probably 50% bigger but i'm guessing she will never have a big comb or wattles, its hard to say if she is physically bigger than when we got her, you dont notice when you seem them ecery day i suppose. ps, this is one of her "redder" moments, and we got poppy same time, same age and she has laid from day 1. Daphne
reddening of the comb is a sign they are coming into lay. But a red comb can quite normally go from rosy red to pale pink and back again in the space of a few minutes (not sure why) and its nothing to do with age or lay (my 4 year old does it). If she is 7 months I would expect her to be laying now/next few weeks, I'm not surprised its taken a while if she has cochin in her, but really she was born nice and early and you would think she'd be laying in the height of summer . All you can do is keep the patient faith I'm afraid. I'd keep treats to a minimum/cut them out, and has she been wormed?
