Thoroughly confused now!!! Are they really red mite??? HELP!

Recommended Posts

Well I am totally and utterly confused

Obviously, as you all know, we thought we had red mite in our chook house. When I discovered them they weren't red which I didn't understand but thought nothing of it. Well we have been getting rid of them slowly but it is working BUT, while I cleaned out the ducks holiday run (a rabbit ark with a cardboard box to sleep in even though they never used it!) I found a large cluster of red specks of dirt moving around in one corner of the box that looked like the pictures of red mite I have seen.

However, these didn't look like what we have in the coop. :? the things in the coop are about 2mm long, whitey grey with a black line on them and look a bit like a spider with a fat round body. These have never been red even when they were in a house with hens. These things move about during the day a lot and jump onto you. :x

So what are they??? Obviously the things in the duck run were red mite so what are the creatures in the coop

Thanks

Tom

Could they be chicken fleas? Not a brilliant picture but the best I could find.
