grunger
Hi all, bit of a noobie here so apologies if this has been covered before (i did try a couple of searches, but didn't find much) I was wondering if anyone has fitted an automatic door to their cubes, and if so how? or know of any products that can be fitted directly or adapted to fit the door of a cube? As i have a cube and I am currently building a WIR, and pond (no ducks or chikens yet!)but for security i was reluctant to leave the cube door ajar, even with a secure WIR. maybe paranoid, but was just interested to know if anyone has any expereinces with automatic doors and cubes? Many Thnaks
Redwing
I think its been discussed on the forum a few times but the problem seems to be that the door slides open sideways rather than goes up and down One solution I thought of (not much use to me since I dont have a cube) would be to build a wooden frame outside the cube door and fit a traditional pop hole to this. This would be much easier if you had a walk in run rather than a normal cube run though
tom123
Yes I agree with Tasha, you could build a short 'tunnel' about a foot long joining the cube and the WIR and fit a auto pop hole on the end of this Tom
Redwing
Take a look at this thread: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=49528&view=unread#unread If by any chance you have a set up like one of these it would be easy to add an auto pop hole
grunger
Many thanks for the replies, and the links to other threads, I have had a quick look at some of the pictures of the runs and they look great - seems like a good simple solution for an automatic door (Never thought about putting the cube outside of the run, Doh!!?) Hopefully may put up some pictures myself of our run when its finished, which maybe a while. One last point, which occured to me while looking at the other thread pictures; as we intend to have ducks which maybe messy - has anyone used wooden pallets as a hard flooring in a run (rather than say slabs??) just thinking they might be easy to clean and droppings may filter through, and water may drain well?) sorry to go off topic? But thanks for the advice everyone
Redwing
Someone on here has an Eglu run on pallets, as long as there are no real gaps between the slats they would be fine but would get very wet and slippery with ducks
