Cinnamon
I have just had a visit from an Aussie Aunt & cousin, who I have not seen for 30 years & they gave me a good tip for cooling hens down, or other small animals like guineas & bunnies. In Australia they half fill an old plastic drink bottle with water & freeze it, then wrap an old tea towel around it & lay it down in the pen. The hens lay next to it, enjoying the coolness that comes off it Sadly my recycling has just been collected so I have no bottles to try it out today though
Janty
And we have just done a load of tomato and basil pasta sauces so our freezer is full.
Old Speckled Hen
Up here I'd have to fill it with HOT water
Gelbel
Up here I'd have to fill it with HOT water DA that picture of your girls in the snow is BRILLIANT. I hope we get some this year - would love to see how mine behave. I have yet to see them in rain so looking forward to a nice shower or two. xScrunchee
Excellent reply as I am having to put Kevin the cockerel in the shed tonight in a cat box covered with a blanket. I was worried about him getting too hot but I'm going to put a small ice pack in his box and some more outside his box. Hope that will help
madchickenlady
What a good idea! If we get any more hot weather, I might have to give it a try
