Does anyone else find that their WIR gets a bit too hot. our run has a plastic roof and is backed one side with our adjoining fench and then one end with the back of our garage, therefore leaving one long side and one short side open, I had planned to leave the girls inside when i am out as it is a large WIR but i am a bit concerned about the heat, I have used the eglu covers to shade the roof.; does anyone else have this problem and do chickens cope with the heat.

Heat ? Not a problem here .

 

I saw someone who had put the Omlet shades inside the run at angles, ie hooked onto the mesh on two different sides. It looked like that provided a lot of shade .

If you use the shades lower on the inside you will create areas of deeper shade. My hens love the cool area under these. When its really hot I run the hosepipe over the shades

 

The Eglu in my run is on a table and they also love it under there

 

 

Debris netting covering the roof and/or side/s may help, its quite cheap on ebay

I have got shade in the WIR as i too have my eglu on a table and shades at the side, but it still feels very stuffy inside, I tried damping down the aubiose but then It just became humid

i have the same problem, there are shaded areas in the run throughout the day but it is still very stuffy in there. i have gone in and misted the girls to cool them down a bit. i read in another thread that someone fills a drinks bottle half full, freezes it, wraps it in an old towel and puts it in the run and the chooks lay near it to keep cool. so i'm going to try that. although the weather seems to be cooling down here now

you can buy heat reflective like trps, used to cover cars.(sold at agility shows so must be able to gert else where. Mine are bunder a carport & I hung 2 like parachutes over the top.

It helped, but do try to keep air movement especially out though the top.
