mikk100
Hi, I have made previous posts (think in chicken clinic) about a bad bullying situation where 4 ex-batts gang up on one. It has kind of sorted itself out a bit largely due to me buying another eglu and having them seperated. The bullied hen, Dorothy, is the only one who seems to have improved in terms of looks, lovely brown feathers and proper wings, not like my others who still look really scraggy with little stick-wings as they came from the battery farm, however 4 weeks in and Dorothy still doesn't seem to have laid an egg yet. The others lay reliably every day and I'm not at all bothered about the production, just wondering if that means she has health problems or just stressed or whatever. She doesn't look to be egg-bound judging by what the symptoms seem to be, she is not sitting in the nest box (although does go to bed early), looking sad or crouching, she seems totally normal and looks really healthy. Any thoughts?
C&T
I would guess all her energy has been focusing on growing all those new feathers, rather than eggs, and from what I understand, they can't do two things at once!! Will probably start again once finished growing the feathers out - if she chooses to restart of course!!
Clash City Rocker
I got two ex batts in August 2008, the first laid most days until she died in July 2009, I don't think that the other has ever laid since we've had her.
abwsco
We got six ex batts in April 2008 - currently down to just one - and egg production was very hit and miss. After initially laying well most of them stopped and didn't start again. Edna our surviving one did stop for months, laid huge eggs for a short while but again hasn't laid one for months. As her comb has now all but gone we think she's definately stopped for good now.
