mikk100
We are shortly going away and will have someone come in to 'do the animals' while we're gone. Because I've got my chickens seperated for bedtime purposes in 2 eglus I would like to keep this up to avoid the fighting/bullying that takes place when certain hens are in certain hen houses with certain others. I can easily tell the difference between all the hens but I appreciate that others can't. Other than keep them all in their respective eglu runs never let out, what are my options for showing my pet sitter which hen goes with which. Then they can be let out in the garden during the day and she can put them back again in the afternoon. I wondered about getting those coloured rings on their legs like you see on pigeons but someone has suggested food colouring on their heads/feathers or legs. That seems a simple enough idea but would it be ok for the birds???
Griffin
Yes, I've done it with chickens and kittens!

Hen Watch
Leg rings sound good. Bit drastic, but if you've got any Gentian Violet spray in your chicken first aid kit, that will turn them a lovely purple colour. Sprayed some on my white hen when she had a cut and she was purple for 3 months..... Obviously doesn't work as well on dark coloured hens. Here she is showing her purple bottom whilst sunbathing by the bin.
