Wood chippings = red mite?

Recommended Posts

No. Red mite are attracted by a blood meal, not wood, or plastic, or anything else. Once they've found their food source, they'll hide in whatever nooks and crannies they can find.

Wild birds are hosts for red mite too, so it's possible that a delivery of woodchip from freshly felled trees could bring them in. However, if you've ever seen or heard a woodchipper working, you'd be amazed that anything could survive the process, so the chances have to be remote. I've heard it has happened though - there's a thread on another forum.
