blackgold
Phoebe, a Faverolle has a very swollen foot I found her sat inside the cube on the roosting bars this morning unable to walk.. I am looking after my friends hens while they are out for the day. I have bought her to my house and immersed her foot in blood heat salty water for 10 minutes. There seemed to be something black stuck in the underneath of her foot., maybe a thorn. I squeezed it gently and it burst. There was a lot of pus in there. Poor thing. I have rubbed some gerrmoline on it and put her In my sky kennel in my kitchen. She is eating extremely well and drinking lots too. I have put some citricidal in the water bowl. I cant think of what else to do. Please help
Redwing
I think you have done very well so far! I would just keep bathing with the salt water, maybe some purple spray would be a good idea too?
Egluntyne
It could be Bumblefoot, in which case, she will need antibiotics. I would advise your riend to take her to a vet, to be on the safe side.
blackgold
…. Phoebe is ok this morning, I have soaked her foot twice in a salt solution and more pus came out. It then bled a bit. The swelling is not as bad as yesterday and she is in a skykennel in my kitchen. She is perching on a spare set of roost bars so keeping her weight off her sore foot. The black thing I think was a rose thorn and I think most of it came out. I have put a wad of paper towel under her foot and I want to try to keep the foot draining so wont bandage it. She is eating well and I am keeping the kennel very clean so hopefully it wont get worse before she goes to the vet in the morning. She will have to stay here as they have young children and not the room to keep her indoors. I may set up the outdoor stable/dog run for her later. If she is staying here for while I will have to get another one of her friends to keep her company. I don’t know if mine will like her and I don’t want any punchups.thanks for all your help and will keep you posted.
