Raina
Hi all, Not sure which one but one of the girls has been crowing this morning! It first woke me up at about 6:25am,by bedroom is nowhere near the girls, they are at the bottom of the garden and i'm in the front room (all windows & doors closed) so it must of been loud Well i went out to check on them and the pair of them were quiet My mum woke me up at 7:30 (just as my Alarm went off) to say one of the girls is making a noise like a cockerel being strangled and she said one of them had her neck stretched out looking at the top of the eglu run. I went out and gave them loads of treats to see if that'll keep em quiet Anyone know what's made one of the girls start crowing? The last time they crowed was the day they started laying
Janty
Interestingly enough, my splash cochin started a sort of hic-uppy cough about a month or so ago. This developed into a crow. The vet who has grown up with chickens said that she has seen this on a few occasions at this time of year. Apparently (and I kid you not) the hens get confused when they have the super long days and then it confuses them even more when the days suddenly get shorter. The vets advice was to keep her in the dark with her food and drink for three to four days and it should sort her out. We have her in a rablu and run that has all been covered up and is very dark inside. We are on day two at the moment and it seems to be working. I will keep you updated when she comes out.
